Have you ever wanted to learn more about the forensic sciences? The Forensic Science Field School will host a Public Day on Wednesday, August 5, a unique opportunity to see how forensic science and archaeology come together for crime scene investigation. We will showcase some of the work our students have completed throughout the program.

Visitors are welcome during two open sessions: 10:00–11:30 AM and 1:00–3:00 PM.

Activities will take place at IUP’s Decomposition Research Station on South Campus. Directions are included in the attached flyer.

During Public Day, students will be conducting mock clandestine grave excavations using plastic skeletal remains. This event occurs during the final week of the field school, representing the cumulation of three instructional modules: forensic anthropology, forensic geology, and forensic archaeology. Each module included hands‑on exercises designed to introduce standard methods and analytical approaches used in these disciplines.

 Faculty and students will be available to discuss their experiences in the program and share information about ongoing forensic anthropology research at IUP. We are pleased to have welcomed students from across the United States this summer, and they look forward to presenting their work and bringing these experiences back to their home institutions.
