April 13, 2021
Dear Families:
The District was notified on April 13, 2021, that a Senior High student has tested positive for COVID-19. The student was not in school during his/her infectious period as we are 100% remote at the secondary level on Fridays. No additional staff and/or students are needing to be quarantined as a result of this case.
This positive case WILL NOT be counted towards the rolling 14-day count because we are remote on Fridays at the secondary level and the individual was contagious on Friday and Saturday. Again, the decision to make Fridays remote is providing us with additional flexibility to remain open as we projected cases and/or quarantines would rise. I realize this decision was not viewed favorably by some of our families, but it has already allowed us to remain open despite the community rise in transmission rates and positive cases.
As a result, we will continue to stay open under the current model. See below for the current case numbers at each building as of this morning.
- Senior High - 0 active cases
- Junior High - 0 active cases
- Eisenhower - 0 active cases
- Horace Mann - 1 active case
- Ben Franklin - 0 active cases
- East Pike - 0 active cases
As a reminder, the 14-day clock starts at the onset of symptoms, not when the District is informed of the test results.
As always, the number of confirmed cases can change at any time. We understand the terrible inconvenience a closure causes our families; however, we have a responsibility to make you aware of the possibility. My goal is not to cause panic, rather it is to help make you aware of the current situation in case the District needs to make a change rather quickly.
Respectfully,
Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich
IASD Superintendent
