Parent Communication Regarding Selected Learning Option

August 28, 2020

Dear Families:

As you are aware, I previously wrote to you on August 21st informing you of changes in our reopening plan as a result of the various mandates/recommendations issued by the Department of Education, Department of Health, and/or the Governor’s Office.  The IASD Board of Directors approved our revised reopening plan on August 18, 2020.

The Department of Health and Department of Education released guidance on what type of re-opening Districts should consider based on COVID-19 transmission/confirmations.  As we previously communicated, Indiana Area Schools must follow the BLENDED (HYBRID) PLAN based upon the “moderate” community spread designation. The county designation may change week-to-week but state guidance recommends waiting for stability in the data before changing instructional models. Additionally, we know that the frequent changing of plans would be incredibly difficult for students and their families.

We have, therefore, developed this plan for instruction for students through November 6th to give you and our students and families stability.  In order to operate effectively, we have to finalize our class rosters and family selections.  We have been very flexible in allowing families to contact their child’s school to discuss the options available and address any concerns or questions that exist.  At this point, in order to be ready for the start of the school year, we respectfully ask that you understand that we will not be making any changes to selections at the current time.  If something arises and you feel your circumstances are unique, please contact your child’s principal to discuss what can be done.

Please visit the FAQ page on our website for the answers to many of the questions or concerns you might have, and if you do not find the answer you are looking for, please reach out to your child’s principal. Our goal is to keep you as informed as possible in an ever-changing educational landscape.  Please anticipate shifts in our operations as conditions continue to change in our schools and our community.

In closing, all of the District is excitedly looking forward to seeing our students back in our schools and online.  I will continue to communicate with you in this ever-changing environment. Thank you for your kindness, patience, and cooperation.  Additionally, you should expect a variety of correspondences from your child’s principal regarding the reopening of school.  Feel free to contact them if you have any additional questions.

Respectfully,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

IASD Superintendent
